David Gilmour refuses to play this epic Pink Floyd song

todayDecember 6, 2021

Background

They are certainly not allergic to it, the former band members of Pink Floyd. Since the band broke up they have been only too happy to play the big hits. After Roger Waters left the group, David Gilmour, Richard Wright or Nick Mason still played the hit songs.

Pink Floyd’s masterpiece ‘Echoes. Echoes’ is avoided, however. For David Gilmour, it is too painful to play this masterpiece in his solo sets. It is one of the best songs ever made and the apex of progressive rock, therefore extraordinary that he does not want to perform it.

The song evokes too many painful memories for composer Richard Wright after his tragic death. Indeed, their mutual bond was immensely strong.

“It would be wonderful to play ‘Echoes’, but I would never do it without Rick!”

Here’s a tip: watch this video. It is the final time David Gilmour and Richard Wright performed Pink Floyd’s ‘Echoes’ together. The recording was made at the final show of the ‘On an Island Tour’ in 2006. 50,000 people attended at the Gdańsk Shipyard and saw this epic song being played.
