A lot of money in the pocket for Bruce Springsteen because of music catalog

todayDecember 16, 2021

Background

How do you make money fast in just two steps? Step one is to become a world artist with big hits, step two is to sell all your music rights and recordings of those hits. 72-year-old Bruce Springsteen has been in the business for 50 years. With the sales, he recently made a whopping 500 million dollars.

Billboard reported that Sony Music, not Universal, has taken over The Boss’ music catalog. This makes him more money than Bob Dylan at the time, who sold his work to Universal for 354 million dollars.

Bruce Springsteen’s music catalog is ‘bulging’

Springsteen’s catalog consists of over 300 songs, 20 studio albums, 23 live albums and 7 EPs. Among these are his five-time platinum ‘The River’ and 15-time platinum ‘Born to Run’.

Columbia Records was the label where Bruce released his music. In the late 1980s and into the 1990s, he officially became the owner of the recordings of his earlier work.
